Under 11 Reports

Stenhousemuir Away - Fri 7th May

The U11’s started the season with what looked like a tough match against Stenhousemuir.

Kinross batted 1st and Jack McCreanor and Niall Baird put on 16 in the first 4 overs, with a nice boundary from Jack. Stuart McCreanor then batted with Hamzah Ulla, and despite the loss of an early wicket the 2 lads put on another 16 runs, the highlight being 3 successive boundaries from Stuart. Next up was Lewis McLaren and Charlie Dineen, who put a partnership of 14 together. Ryan Shah then batted with Hamzah, and added 11 with some good running between the wickets. Last up was Lewis and Charlie again, and with the bowlers tiring now, added 21 valuable runs, with both batters hitting superb shots to the boundary.

This all added up to a score of 78, with the 2 most pleasing aspects of the innings being some very good calling and running between the wickets plus some very sensible batting meaning only a couple of wickets were lost.

Stenhousemuir then batted, and the Kinross team soon showed that their excellent batting was going to be supported with some tight bowling and fielding. All the team bowled well, including Charlie Turnbull who bowled 2 tight overs and contributed to a run out. The highlight of the bowling was Hamzah clean bowling 2 Stenhousemuir batsmen with consecutive deliveries, a fine feat. Ryan Shah keeping wicket for the 1st time, stopped everything and encouraged the bowlers at every opportunity.

When the final over was completed, Stenhousemuir had scored 35 runs, meaning a 1st win of the season for Kinross by 33 runs. All 8 boys played well, with some excellent batting and bowling, complemented with tight fielding and good running between the wickets. A fine start to the season for Kinross.

Dunfermline Away - Fri 21st May

The U11’s continued their great start to the season with another win, this time against Dunfermline.

Kinross won the toss and batted 1st. Sally Weir and Katy Robson put on 16 as the first pairing, losing one wicket against some accurate and fast Dunfermline bowling. Stuart McCreanor then batted with Niall Baird adding a further 16 runs in their 4 overs. Lewis McLaren and Charlie Dineen were next up, adding 10 to the score but could have added more as they lost two wickets. Ryan Shah and Jack McCreanor were the final pair. They added 14 to the score, losing one wicket.

The team came off satisfied with the score, the final Kinross total adding up to 56. The team defended well but a little disappointed at not being able to show off their batting skills to the full due to the high number of wides bowled by the opposition.

Dunfermline then batted, and the Kinross team were soon taking wickets. Tight bowling and fielding kept the Dunfermline total down to a score of 34, with 5 wickets being taken. All the team bowled well, Sally Weir was the pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets, with other wickets being taken by Katy Robson, Jack McCreanor and Stuart McCreanor. Ryan Shah kept wicket again for the first 12 overs and took a great leg side catch.

Kinross won by 22 runs.

Freuchie Home - Wed 26th May

The U11’s continued their season hoping to keep their unbeaten record with a home match against Freuchie.

Kinross batted 1st and Lewis McLaren & Ryan Shah started positively with 2 fine boundaries from Lewis in the 1st over. Next pair in were Sally Weir and Katy Robson – both girls batted well, ran well between the wickets and never looked like losing a wicket. Jack McCreanor then batted with Sam Smith, and again kept the total moving in the right direction, the highlight being 3 boundaries from Jack. Last up was Stuart McCreanor and Harry Stewart, and they kept the scoreboard ticking with a number of well run singles.

This all added up to a score of 92 runs for the loss of only 1 wicket, leaving a final total of 87. Again the team showed real promise with the bat, with some very good calling and running between the wickets.

After a quick break for crisps and juice, it was the turn of Freuchie to bat. The Kinross team again showed that their excellent batting was going to be supported with some tight bowling and fielding. All the team bowled well, with wickets for Ryan and Lewis who both knocked over the stumps of the Freuchie batsmen. The highlight of the bowling was successive maidens from Katy & Sally in the middle of the Freuchie innings, putting paid to any chance that Freuchie might have had to knock off the runs.

When the final over was completed, Freuchie had scored 65 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, a final score of 55 meaning a win for Kinross by 32 runs. All the team again played well, with some excellent batting and bowling, complemented with tight fielding and good running between the wickets.

Stirling Home - Wed 9th June

The U11’s lost their unbeaten record on Wednesday losing narrowly to Stirling

Kinross lost the toss and were asked to bat 1st.. Stuart McCreanor and Charlie Dineen opened the innings and scored steadily scoring a total of 10 runs. Sally Weir and Katy Robson struggled to score against some fast and accurate Stirling bowling, but managed to add a further 5 runs to the total. Lewis McLaren and Ryan Shah were next to bat. They put on 17 runs with some excellent running between the wickets. Hamzah Ulla and Alasdair Bennet came in to face the best of the Stirling bowlers and unfortunately ended up with a negative score. The final pair of Sean Keegan and Jack McCreanor rescued the innings, amassing 20 runs in their 4 overs, with Jack hitting two fours.

The final Kinross total was 50 runs, having lost 7 wickets. Wickets lost were the big difference between this match and previous ones, with the Stirling bowling being the best we had seen all season.

Stirling then batted. Their opening pair got them off to a great start scoring 20 runs of the first 4 overs, and Stirling looked as if they would reach the Kinross total easily. However, the Kinross team bowling and fielding improved after that, and after 19 overs the scores were level. Stirling managed to scramble a couple of singles off the final over and “padded” away the final ball to score 54 from their innings. The team bowled well again, with two wickets each for Alasdair Bennet and Jack McCreanor. Sally Weir and Ryan Shah bowled economically. Charlie Dineen took a catch as wicket keeper.

Kinross lost by 4 runs.

Kwik Cricket Reports

Kinross-shire Primary Schools Kwik Cricket Tournament

Cleish Primary School made it three-in-a-row as they were crowned winners of the Kinross-shire Primary Schools kwik cricket competition for the third consecutive year. The tournament is organised and managed by Kinross Cricket Club and was held at the newly built Loch Leven Community Campus cricket pitch on Wednesday 2nd June 2010.

This follows a 3-month program of schools coaching carried out by volunteer club coaches in all six of the local Kinross-shire Primary Schools. Many of the youngsters involved have joined Kinross Cricket Club’s junior section which has well over 100 junior members.

Teams were entered from Kinross, Fossoway, Portmoak, Cleish, & Milnathort Primary Schools. Children were from P6 and younger and the tournament rules were slightly changed this year to reflect the increase in the popularity of girls’ cricket and each team had a minimum of three girls playing in matches. It was a very hotly contested tournament this year with all teams contributing great performances in the group matches. The tension mounted as it became clear that the result of the last match would decide the tournament winner. A hush descended at the end of the final match as the officials checked and re-checked the score-cards before announcing Cleish as the overall winners.

Nine year old participant, Eliza Stevenson said of the tournament “It was amazing. It was fantastic today. I love this game”

Cleish will now go on to represent Perth & Kinross in the National finals held at Doo’cot Park, Perth on June 16th.

Tournament Organiser, Kirsteen Ross said “Every year this tournament just gets better and better. There were some really strong individual performances, some naturally talented batsmen and some outstanding catches and dives on the boundary. The club is very pleased to have established strong relationships with the local primary schools and we would like to thank all the schools for the warm welcome they extend to our club coaches and their support and encouragement for our “cricket taster” program that we run each year and their support for and participation in this tournament. Given the amount of sporting talent on display today, the future of Kinross-shire cricket is safe for many years to come”
