Scottish Cup
Finals Day 26/6/2011
Semi Final
Kinross u15 - 96-6 (20-overs) beat Largo u15 91-7 (20
overs) by 5 runs
C Gosse 28* S Flemming 25
H Waterston 27 H Imrie 24
R Brown 2-11 H Waterston 2-12
F Culley 2-15
On a day bathed in sunshine, a rarity this summer,
Kinross u15 travelled to Goldenacre in Edinburgh
confident of securing the Scottish Cup. Scheduled to
play Largo in the second semi final of the day the team
arrived early to watch Grange v Clydesdale in the first
semi final and study the potential final opposition.
The focus then turned to the match against Largo,
captain Nick Diston won the toss and elected to bat. The
steady loss of wickets made a good total hopeful more
than assured, but a good innings of 26 from Harry
Waterston and a cavalier 28 not out from Callum Gosse,
produced a modest but defendable 96.
In reply Largo got off to a good start, reaching 48 for
1 after 10 overs, despite an efficient opening spell
from opening bowlers Gosse and Culley. Then Kinross
showed the collective spirit that has taken them to this
point of the tournament. A fine bowling effort from C
Stevenson and H Waterston along with some galvanised
fielding saw Largo lose 5 wickets for 25 runs. As the
game came to a nail biting end Largo required 11 of
their final over but Kinross kept their nerves to hold
on and win by 5 runs.
Final
Grange u15 132-5 (20 overs) beat Kinross u15 56 all out
(19.5 overs)
H McIntosh 50*
N Diston 2-25 T Darling 3-13
F Culley 2-26 G Hairs 2-13
The victory over Largo set up a final against the much
fancied Grange. With Grange winning the toss and
choosing to bat, Kinross hoped to restrict Grange to a
competitive total. With only a 10 minute break between
semi final and final, fielding in consecutive innings
appeared to have robbed Kinross of their usual
effervescence in the field. Despite Grange losing a
wicket without scoring; a beautifully crafted 50 from
wicketkeeper H McLeod was the mainstay of Grange’s 132.
In reply Kinross’ batting never got started, scoreboard
pressure and poor shot selection led to wickets falling
cheaply and regularly. Great credit must be given to the
Grange bowlers, whose miserly offerings left little
scoring opportunities. However Kinross’ players will
feel they could have accumulated more than their 56. The
gargantuan 70 run victory for Grange although deserved,
did exaggerate the difference between the sides.
Without searching for excuses, playing back to back
matches with minimal rest was always going to be a tough
ask for any team. However the better team won on the day
and congratulations are deserved for Grange. The Kinross
team did very well to reach the final and each player
should be proud of their contributions made in the
previous rounds.

Kinross U15 v
Dunfermline U15 – 4th May 2011
The U15 team played their first
home match of the season and continued their fine early
season form against Dunfermline U15. Batting first, the
home team posted 130 for 3 off 20 their overs which
ultimately was too much for Dunfermline, who could only
manage 98 in reply. An impressive 22 from opener Colum
Stevenson set the tone for the Kinross innings. Despite
losing two quick wickets they recovered with some good
batting from Daniel Graveling, Fraser Gosse and Fred
Culley.
In defending their total,
Kinross allowed opener B Wilkinson to get Dunfermline
off to a good start. However with some astute bowling
changes Kinross got on top of their opponents and a win
was beckoning. Pick of the bowlers was Zoe Conway with
figures of 2-9.
Man of the match was Fraser
Gosse; firing 31 not out with the bat and leading his
players as captain in the field ensured a second
consecutive victory for the U15 team.

Forfarshire U15 v Kinross U15 –
Scottish Cup, 28th April 2011
On a sunny early season evening
Kinross won an important toss and chose to open their
Scottish Cup campaign by batting. After a solid start by
opening pair Fraser Gosse and Fred Culley, Kinross
looked to be on their way posting a good total. With the
loss of the first wicket Harry Waterston came in to
blast a quick fire 50 to ensure Kinross’ total of 143
for 1 was more than competitive.
Requiring over 7 runs an over,
the Forfarshire innings never really got started. A good
bowling display from all the Kinross bowlers kept the
home side’s run rate below that required. Taking wickets
at regular intervals stopped any of the Forfarshire
batsmen making a dent in the Kinross total. A Fine
fielding display, lead by wicketkeeper Callum Gosse with
3 catches, complimented the bowling attack restricting
Forfarshire to 120 for 5.
A 23 run victory was well
deserved by the Kinross team, who now hope to build on
this to go on a long Scottish Cup run. There were many
highlights in this game, but a composed yet skilful 48
not out from man of the match Fred Culley, was the
cornerstone of this fine win.
