Ken Reilly – Cricket Scotland
Volunteer of the Month
Cricket Scotland invited the
recipients of their 2011 ASDA Volunteer of the Month
awards to be presented with their certificates at
Murrayfield stadium recently.
Scotland Captain Gordon Drummond
was on hand to present the awards.

Ken Reilly was nominated by
fellow club members in 2011 and he was delighted to be
recognised for his significant contribution to the club
and local cricket by a panel of judges. Ken is the
longest serving member of Kinross Cricket Club and
current Chairman. He was pivotal in setting up the
junior section in 2005. Whilst looking after the U13’s
and 15’s, he also coached the two senior teams in 2010.
Ken has coached as a volunteer in all six feeder primary
schools in Kinross-shire for the past five years and
gives his time freely and his energy tirelessly and is
an asset to the club and to cricket in Scotland. Ken was
invited to attend the Edinburgh v Leinster rugby match
as a guest of Cricket Scotland and enjoyed a buffet
reception afterwards when he was presented with his
award in one of the Murrayfield suite. Ken also received
a £100 food voucher to spend in ASDA, along with his
certificate.

Juniors Get Selected
Congratulations to the following
Kinross junior players on their selection for the
Tayside and Fife Regional Performance Development (RDC)
Squad.
The club youngsters are
participating in an intense winter programme to prepare
them for potential selection to the Caledonia Academy
team which comprises of the best players from the RDC
and North Academy. The Caledonia , West and East
Academies will then compete in a 3-way tournament in the
summer and national selectors will be there looking out
for the next intake of talented players for future
national teams. Let’s hope that several of our young
players are knocking on the door of the next level of
cricketing excellence and we wish them all the best in
their quest for further success. The RDC players are;
Under-15s
- Fred Culley
- Ewan Doig
- Matthew Gilmour
- Fraser Gosse
- Colum Stevenson
- Harry Waterston
Under-13s
- Rory Cooke
- Lachlan Peterson.
Several of the club’s younger
players have also been put forward to the Tayside & Fife
under-12 development programme. It is a credit to the
club’s excellent coaches and coaching structure that so
many of our young players are on the radar as future
Scottish stars. The youngsters are;
- Stuart McCreanor
- Jack McCreanor
- Lewis McLaren
- Euan Nicol
- Toby Darwin
The future of the club is
looking very solid with a large number of players also
selected for the Perth and Kinross winter performance
development squads. These players will compete in the
inter-Area festival this summer where selectors will
identify next year’s RDC squad. Well done to all that
have been selected for the various stages of the
performance pathway and we wish them all a very

Halloween Quiz Night
The club held a fundraising quiz
night last Friday at the Masonic Hall, Kinross. Around
80+ people of all ages attended and were well
entertained by quiz masters Al Emslie and Zoe Conway.
There were 10 rounds of questions with a break in the
middle for some “Apple Dooking” and to purchase some of
the delicious tray bakes prepared by the fundraising
committee ladies.
To date, a very impressive
£408.90 has been raised and is an excellent start to the
club’s “new ground” fund. The winners of both halves of
the quiz were ladies captain, Anita Collins’s team,
although four teams vied for position throughout the
night with a very close result at the end with Anita’s
team winning by a mere ½ a point.
Grateful thanks go to Mark
Conway and the Masonic Lodge for allowing us to use the
hall and for providing the bar. Thanks to everyone that
bought tickets and supported the club and for the
generous donations handed in on the night too.
Keep watching the website for
further fun fundraising activities and

Ladies Into Scottish Cup
Semi-Finals
On a gloomy, wet Friday evening
Kinross finally managed to play Stirling in the Women's
Scottish Cup. The drizzle was still falling when the two
sides agreed to start the match and because of the poor
light the match was reduced to 15 overs a side. Kinross
won the toss and chose to bat first managing to put
together a score of 77 for 1 wicket. Deanna Green top
scored with a confident 34 not out. With both teams
anxious to get a result Kinross quickly took to the
field with Stirling’s opening pair. Kinross’s opening
bowler Claire Jackson toppled the opening batsman in her
first over and the ever competitive Lori Kellett not
happy to be left out then took two wickets in her second
over. Stirling’s other opening bat, Mandy Martin was now
in her stride and batted freely with several excellent
fours and although Kinross managed some good tight
accurate bowling, with all players keeping a very
careful eye on the scoreboard, no further wickets fell
until Claire came in for her final over when she took a
further two wickets. The game remained very tight with
Kinross trying to prevent runs and Stirling’s batsmen
running very bravely between the wickets.
In the final over of the match,
Stirling needed 8 runs to win and Zoe Conway was
bowling. Stirling scored two runs off first ball, the
second was tipped and run so captain, Anita Collins,
brought the field up, the third they tried to tip and
run again but Zoe Conway, like lightning, picked up the
ball, threw in to the wicket keeper and the batsman was
run out well out of her crease. With three balls to go
and light fading the tension was in the air - four for
the draw - five for the win as Zoe took the pressure and
bowled two amazing dot balls, the sixth ball was struck
hard but resulted in just two runs giving Kinross Ladies
the victory and an opportunity to play in the semi
finals at Stirling on Sunday 11th Sep at 10am.
An evening of great fun and
sportsmanship was finished with a great tea – pizza and
pakora………………heaven!

Irish Thriller
Kinross
CC coach and Scotland under 19 batsman, Peter Ross was
named the ICC Man of the Match in the under 19 world cup
qualifier between Ireland and Scotland.
Having been set a target of 238
in 50 overs, Scotland found themselves chasing a revised
100 from 16 overs in a badly rain affected match.
Although Scotland lost 5 wickets, Peter's 60 not out saw
Scotland win with a ball to spare in a thoroughly
thrilling game.

Peter Ross Plays in U19 World
Cup Qualifiers
Club
coach and former 1st XI player, Peter Ross has been
selected for the Scotland under-19 team to compete in
the World Cup Qualifiers held at venues across Ireland
in July and August. Peter will play teams from Kenya,
Namibia, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, USA, Canada,
Ireland, Vanuatu and Nepal. The top 6 of those teams
will take part in the 2012 World Cup in Australia. The
club wishes Peter and the Scotland team the best of
luck.

Second National Success For
Kinross Ladies
.jpg)
The ladies team are delighted to
learn that Claire Jackson joins Deanna Green in the
Scotland under-17s Women’s team this summer. Claire
first joined the club in 2006 and as one of the founding
junior members, she has come right through the club
ranks from under-10 kwik cricket “beginner” to ladies
team fast swing bowler. Claire has shown outstanding
promise from a very young age and ladies coach, Kirsteen
Ross, is convinced that Claire will make a very positive
impact in the Scotland set-up and benefit from the elite
women’s training over the coming winter. Claire will
take part in the ECB tour of the English Midland
Counties this summer as part of the ECB county
championships. Several of the club ladies players are
looking strong contenders for Scotland places in the
next few seasons and there are several more very
promising younger girls training in the junior section
of the club at the moment which is very positive for the
ladies section in the future and with positive role
models such as Claire and Deanna, there is much for them
to aspire to.

'Ton Up'
Congratulation
to Fred Culley who scored his maiden century playing for
Perth & Kinross Area under-13s against Dundee in the
Inter-Area Tournament scoring 104. His excellent innings
lead the team to victory.
Many congratulations also to
Lachlan Peterson for taking 5 wickets against Angus Area
under-13s in the same tournament. Both boys' superb
performances will now be reported to the 'Wisden
Cricketer' who record centuries scored and 5-wicket
hauls.

Kit Boost for Kinross Ladies
Kinross Ladies received a
donation of a brand new kit bag from The Lady Taverners
this week.

This provides the ladies section
with fantastic new equipment such as bats, pads, gloves,
balls and helmets which will increase the amount of
equipment to go round at training sessions and increase
the quality of equipment available to players at
matches.
The club is grateful to the
Lord’s and Lady Taverners for their continued support of
development at the club. The Lord's Taverners is the
official charity of recreational cricket and the UK's
leading youth cricket and disability sports charity and
the Lady Taverners is a vital and dedicated fundraising
arm of The Lord’s Taverners.

First Scotland Cap For Kinross
Ladies
Kinross Ladies player, Deanna
Green has been selected for the Scotland Women’s
under-17 team this summer.

This is an amazing success for
Deanna as she has been playing cricket for less than one
year. She was spotted by Ladies coach, Kirsteen Ross at
her school training sessions and was invited to the
Perth & Kinross Area performance training over the
winter.
Deanna is naturally athletic and
has trained and competed at national level in judo.
Initially her interest in cricket was simply to form
part of her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. It quickly
became apparent that Deanna was destined for greater
things as she displayed an exceptional talent for
fielding and wicketkeeping. Deanna will travel to play
some of the English County teams such as Staffordshire
and Derbyshire in the ECB county championships in July.
We are all very proud – good luck Deanna!

Club/School Links Flourish with
Secondary School Success
On Wednesday 15th June at
Doo’cot Park, Perth, Kinross High School lifted the
trophy at the inaugural finals day of the Cricket
Scotland National Emerging Schools’ Cup.

Emerging schools cricket is a
hardball competition, for new school teams. Played on a
pairs basis, it allows all members of each team to play
an equal part in matches.
Early heats decided which four
teams qualified for a further round of matches which
would decide the final placings, and the final was
played out between the two unbeaten teams from Belmont
Academy from Ayrshire and Kinross High School.
The final was a very exciting
game which came down to the penultimate ball and Kinross
High emerged victorious winning by six runs. Perth &
Kinross Cricket Development Officer, Kirsteen Ross said
“it’s fantastic to see Kinross High School win this
National trophy as it represents a great achievement for
the players and really shows what can be done when
schools and local sports clubs work closely together”.
Over the past year Kinross Cricket Club has worked with
Kinross High School providing coaches to deliver an
after-schools cricket club which introduces cricket to
pupils from S1 through to the senior school.

New Venue For Junior Coaching
Due to the planned building and
maintenance work going on at Kinross House this summer,
the committee has decided that it would be safer and
more convenient for members if junior training was held
at Loch Leven Community Campus grass pitches.
Junior training starts on Monday
18th April from 6.15pm – 8pm. Players should wear warm
clothing early on the season and bring a drink to every
session. Junior convenors, Tim and Allison Gosse will be
situated at the entrance to the grass pitches. Players
should enter the campus via reception and go out the
doors at the top of the corridor where the cafe seating
is. Matches will continue to be held at Kinross House.
New members are very welcome to
attend and should email
secretary@kinrosscc.co.uk for further information.
|
Club Clothing
The new clothing range is
available to purchase from our
online club shop at Surridge. The club also holds a
small stock of kit should members require clothing at
short notice.
|
100 Club
The aim of the 100 club is to
raise much needed funds for the Cricket Club.
It is hoped that the club will
have at least 100 members, but it will be possible to
have more than 1 membership.
Each membership will cost £4.00
per month, paid by Standing Order (see enclosed form) or
a lump sum of £48 paid annually. 50% of this income will
benefit the club and 50% will paid out in prizes,
through a monthly draw and a larger Christmas prize.
Debbie Weir from the fundraising
committee has agreed to manage this scheme along with
club treasurer, Alan Harper.
Should you have any queries
regarding the 100 club, please contact Debbie on 01259
