The 2008 Senior Awards Dinner
was held at The Green Hotel in Kinross on Saturday 15th
November 2008. As well as the presentations to the many
prize winners in the club, there was also a very special
tribute paid to Ken Reilly by Danny Harper. After a
career that has lasted for over 50 years, Ken has
finally decided to hang his spikes up and retire from
playing cricket. He will, however, still be involved in
coaching and umpiring and will continue to add to value
to the club and individual players through his vast
experience of the game.

Kinross Cricket Club is very
proud to be jointly awarded Junior Club of The Year at
the 2008 Lloyds TSB Scotland Scottish National Cricket
Awards held at a reception in Edinburgh.
Kinross Cricket Club and the
Huntly Highlanders are the only clubs in Scotland to
receive Cricket Scotland’s TOPClub Silver award, as part
of the governing body’s development programme. This
involved meeting strict criteria, which included having
the appropriate number of Level 2 qualified coaches,
opportunities for girls and boys to play, a clear
pathway to excellence, a volunteering strategy in place,
equity and child protection policies and active schools
partnerships with at least four local schools.

The annual
junior awards were held at The Windlestrae Hotel on
Wednesday 24th September. Ken Reilly welcomed everybody
and commented on how good the attitude of our juniors
had been and how they were a credit to their parents,
themselves and the club. John Ross then took us through
the different stages of junior development and how these
related to Kinross Cricket Club... |
1st XI League Winners
Great news for the 1st team who
have been confirmed as Champions of division 3 of the
Strathmore & Perthshire Union, and have now gained
promotion to play next season in division 2. This caps a
very successful season for the team, who also had a
great Cup run, reaching the Semi-final of the Small
Clubs Cup, losing a close fought match to the eventual
winners, a strong Bon Accord side.
In the league, the team, very
much a mixture of youth and experience, won 10 matches,
losing only 1, beating their closest rivals Clackmannan
County both Home and Away. There were some outstanding
individual and team performances throughout the season,
and the Annual Awards Dinner on the 15th November will
see this years eagerly anticipated awards winners
announced. A full list of all winners will be published
in due course.

1st XI Continue Winning Ways
On a wet Sunday 10th August,
Kinross travelled to Clackmannanshire for the return leg
of the double header and having won a tough battle at
home the week before, Kinross were expecting another
fight if they wanted to come away with all the points.
However a sublime performance with the ball, especially
by John Ross who took a club record 7 for 19 off 7 overs
limited Clackmannanshire to 76 runs which Kinross
knocked off for the loss of just 2 wickets.
Congratulations to John Ross for
his personal performance and to the team as a whole and
with just 4 league games left to play and a 100% record
to maintain, the end is in sight, but it is all still
very much to play for.

Congratulations go
to Kinross for their first out-right victory in the
mid-week league. Thanks to all the teams and players

Under 11 Perth and Kinross Area
Players
Five of the Kinross CC under-11s
were selected to represent Perth and Kinross in the
inter-area tournament held at Kinross House. Teams from
Fife, Angus, Perth & Kinross and Dundee took part in an
8-a-side festival which was hosted by the club for the
first time. All the boys batted, bowled and fielded very
well. Kinross scorers, Kim Tree and Debbie Weir assisted
the Perth and Kinross coaching team doing a marvellous
job keeping the scoreboard up to date and the scoring
records correct. The weather was fantastic and the
ground looked magnificent. Thanks were received from the
area team managers for the work undertaken by Ant Drew
and John Ross to prepare the pitches and to the club for
organising and hosting the event.

Under 15 Scotland
Representatives
Kinross teenagers Peter Ross,
Scott Weir and Nick Farrar have been selected to
represent Scotland for this summer’s program of
international under-15 cricket fixtures. This includes
games against Holland, Denmark, Guernsey, Jersey and
Ireland as well as a number of the English County sides.
Peter and Scott were members of the Scottish under-15
team which toured South Africa in April and Nick was
selected for the ICC elite performance training at La
Manga, Spain, also in April.
All three boys play for Kinross Cricket Club and the
club are proud to be the best represented of all the
Scottish Clubs at under-15 level. This is a real credit
to the coaching team, the support of parents as well as
the hard work put in by the boys throughout the year.

On Saturday 12th July, Kinross
Cricket Club welcomed its oldest surviving member, Mr
Alistair Dowell, to watch a friendly game against Bute
County. 88 year old, former Scotland player, Mr Dowell,
first played for Kinross in 1930 at the pitch at the
Beeches in Kinross (now the 18th hole of the Kinross
golf course).

If there is anybody out there
that has any information about the history of
Kinross-shire Cricket Club or in possession of any old
club records, please email secretary@kinrosscc.co.uk.

On a wet 6th July, our Under 15s
travelled to Glenalmond College to try to retain their
Scottish Cup. Unfortunately it was not to be and they
lost out to Grange in the final.
With such high hopes
and expectations resting on their shoulders, the boys
conducted themselves very well throughout the
competition, especially on the finals day. They never
once gloated in victory and when they were eventually
beaten, they were quick to offer their congratulations
to Grange, they were all true ambassadors for Kinross
Cricket Club and Kinross-shire as a whole.

Community 6s
Saturday 7th June saw 8 teams
attend the annual Community sixes tournament. The
Kinross Hockey team were keen to retain their title but
other entrants from Kinross Round Table, Boys Brigade,
Kinross Churches, Kinross Ladies Cricket, Kinross High &
Dollar Academy Girls Cricket, Kinross Mixed Hockey teams
and Sport Scotland had other ideas. The unexpectedly
good weather helped to get all the teams in a summer
cricket mood and the group matches progressed quickly.
Kinross Hockey ended as winner of the group A matches,
and were drawn to play Sport Scotland in the final.
After some excellent cricket
from both sides Sport Scotland pulled off an unexpected
win to lift the 2008 title.

All the teams and players had a
fantastic day and £74 was raised from the impromptu BBQ
and was donated to CHAS.

The grounds of Kinross House
provided a beautiful, sunny setting for the first
inter-Kinross-shire Primary Schools Kwik Cricket
Tournament this week. Teams from Kinross, Milnathort,
Portmoak, Fossoway and Cleish Primary Schools
participated in the area tournament hosted by Kinross
Cricket Club.
The winners of the Kinross-shire
Cricket Primary Schools Shield were the children from
Cleish Primary School. The award was presented by club
head coach, John Ross.

100 Club
The aim of the 100 club is to
raise much needed funds for the Cricket Club.
It is hoped that the club will
have at least 100 members, but it will be possible to
have more than 1 membership.
Each membership will cost £4.00
per month, paid by Standing Order (see enclosed form) or
a lump sum of £48 paid annually. 50% of this income will
benefit the club and 50% will paid out in prizes,
through a monthly draw and a larger Christmas prize.
Debbie Weir from the fundraising
committee has agreed to manage this scheme along with
club treasurer, Alan Harper.
Should you have any queries
regarding the 100 club, please contact Debbie on 01259
743 417.
